Script:
Fyodor Konyukhov is a legendary Russian explorer, artist, writer, and Orthodox priest. He is renowned for setting numerous world records in extreme expeditions across all environments: land, sea, and air. Konyukhov is the only person to have reached the five poles of the planet: the North Pole , the South Pole, the Pole of Inaccessibility (Arctic), Mount Everest (pole of altitude), and Cape Horn (pole of sailors).
From a young age, Fedor felt the pull of the horizon. Born in 1951 in a small village on the Coast of the Sea of Azov, he crossed that very sea in a rowboat at just 15. His father, a fisherman, and his grandfather, who served with Arctic explorer Georgy Sedov, imbued him with a love for the sea and adventure. He often recalls, "I was nine when Yuri Gagarin flew into space, and I dreamed of becoming a cosmonaut. I believed by the 21st century we'd have settlements on Mars”.
One of his most harrowing tales is his 2016 solo balloon flight around the world. In a capsule, he soared at altitudes exceeding Everest's peak, battling -40°C cold, frozen oxygen valves, and lightning storms over the Indian Ocean. To stay awake during the 11-day journey, he used a medieval monk technique: clutching a key that would clang upon falling, waking him for 5-second micro-sleeps. "I couldn't sleep—if I’d fallen asleep, I’d have gone down," he says.
In 2014, he rowed across the Pacific solo in 159 days, setting a world record. Later, in 2019, he became the first to row solo across the Southern Ocean, a 154-day journey through the "furious fifties" with 10-meter waves and hurricane-force winds. His boat, AKROS, capsized four times. "You gain most when you set a goal—any goal—and carry it out," Feodor says. His adventures aren’t for personal glory but to inspire curiosity in a world he feels has lost its exploratory spirit 29. "Humans should be more curious—they should strive to discover new worlds".
